Burroughs Illbient at its rawest!
(c) Mauk Tenieb - Korhogo Rec, 2023
This is a part of a multimedia narrative that fuses music, photographs and video
storytelling. My main focus has always been potential stories and their impact. In am drawn to journeys like those of Odysseus, initiations, transformations and existential explorations. I am also interested in transcribing the electric energy that animates our cells, especially the spirit-related neurons. I use my smartphone as a daily probe, which is essentially a nervous prosthesis now augmented with various AIs.
"Ritual Jazz in Interzone, Burroughs Illbient, Industrialistani IDM, and Damaged/Worried Electronica" can form an experiential geography that creates a semantic and existential impact through collages, layers, and the effect of time and matter. It's a poetic way to remind ourselves that the real is, in fact, real. After all, poetry is always grounded in the real world, or it becomes either crazy, pretentious, or bourgeois.
So, what does it all mean? We can imagine figures like Rick Deckard, Ulysses, Pier Paolo Pasolini (see Ernest Pignon-Ernest), his heroic Œdipus, Dante and maybe Ligeti György or Major Fatal walking across a rope bridge, listening to this music above a massive industrial complex in India or Pakistan. Why? Because they can, and we can imagine it.
Music inspirations, as always: Scorn (every pionner in it), Skiz Fernando too, John Zorn and of course Mike Patton, plus all Ipecac Recordings, fellas from Sleepytime Gorilla Museum and all the related projects. Also Muslimgauze. Oh, and French wonderful bands: Magma, Eths, Kourgane, etc.
